Moving boxes online UK come in many different shapes and sizes. They are often used for moving house, shipping and for storage too, as well as being used in businesses around the country. They are filled with many different items, which are going to weigh a variety of weights too, and the heavier the box, the more likely it is that you could injure yourself when lifting it. So how can you correctly lift up large packing boxes to ensure that the risk of injury is reduced?
- Bend your knees first of all. Go as low as you need to in order to reach the floor and the bottom of the box, and you will need to bend them almost completely in order to do this. Put your fingers around the bottom edge of the box in order to grip it tightly, so that you do not drop the box once it is lifted because this would cause damage to your items inside of the box. You need to grab the box from the middle of the edge; else it would topple over easily.
- Keep your back as straight as possible. This is especially important for the lower back, because if you lift packing boxes for moving incorrectly it can cause both muscular damage and spinal damage as well if you lift with poor technique over a long period of time. The heavier the box, the more risk of damage to your back. The sciatic nerve is the nerve that goes all the way down your spine and sends signals to your body from the brain, and this can get damaged at your lower back if you are not careful enough. It can cause a lot of pain when moving, and can send shooting pains down one or both of your legs, causing numbness and tingling. Just keep your back straight, with your head up, in order to prevent this from happening.
- If the cardboard packaging boxes are too heavy to lift in this way and you are struggling, then just ask somebody else to help you with it. You can put it onto a trolley to make the shifting a bit easier to prevent pressure being put on your back. Lifting trucks are also a good idea in this scenario too.
- Make sure you wear tough boots when you lift heavy boxes too, with steel toe caps if possible, because there is a risk that you might drop the box onto your toes, which could cause a lot of pain!
