How to estimate how much bubble wrap you need

You might need to use bubble wrap for any number of reasons, ranging from sending things in the post, storage, or for moving house too. This is one hundred percent accurate; just make sure it covers the whole item. 

  • If you are moving home, and have many things that need protecting and have too many things to measure each of them individually, then this is a little trickier. A one bedroom house move will require around a twenty metre roll of bubble wrap on average, and a four bedroom house will typically need a fifty or hundred metre roll of bubble wrap. You will need more if the house is full of things, but less if your house is emptier. You need to consider if you are going to wrap up any precious furniture using bubble wrap too, because it can be a good option but will require lots of high-quality bubble wrap.

  • Most packaging companies offer moving packs which are designed for specific sized house moves. They will give you a good idea of how much you are likely to require for your move, and you can pick and choose depending on how ‘busy’ your house is. 
Based on these factors you can guess how much bubble wrap you need. The best option is to buy a medium roll, and if you run out you can just buy some more. Postage from most packaging companies is cheap, and it can be worth preventing wastage by using this technique where possible.
