Things you should know before you pack for moving

When you are moving house, there are many things you need to consider and think about. It can be a stressful process, with a lot of tasks going on at the same time. One thing is for sure, and that is that you should pre pack your belongings into large boxes for moving house prior to the removal date. The reason for this is that it keeps your things organised, it makes your things easy to carry when you move, and so in turn, it saves you time and money. Here we have compiled a list of things to consider before you start packing those boxes.




  • You should organise things based on the room in which they are in. This will mean that when it comes to unpacking in the new home, you will know precisely where everything goes, and it will make that job a lot easier.
  • You should write on the outsides of each of the house moving boxes, because again this will help to keep things organised well. It will again mean that when it comes to unpacking, your life will be much easier.

  • Make sure you have strong cardboard boxes for packing, because the last thing you want is them breaking apart during the house move. You should use double walled boxes rather than single walled ones, because they are much stronger and more useful for this task.
  • Make sure you use strong box tape as well to secure the boxes. Weak tape will not do the job, and could mean your things will end up on the floor. 
  • Make sure you use bubble wrap for the more delicate of items that you need to look after, because this will prevent them from breaking. It will also make them waterproof for if it rains during removal. 
  • Make sure you use the right sized packing cardboard boxes. Do not use boxes that are too large, because it will make them too hard to carry on the removal day. Make sure you use reasonable sized boxes that can easily be carried but are large enough to hold your things. Read the descriptions online to find this information out. 
  • Pack lighter items into the removal van after the heavier and larger furniture. It will ensure that you can fit the most items into the lorry, and ensures that the lighter items are looked after and are not squashed.   
  • Buy only the number of boxes that you need. This can be hard to know, so if you buy a small quantity at a time, and top it up as you run out, this is the best method. It ensures there is no wastage of packaging.
