How to stack boxes in a removal lorry correctly and efficiently

When you move home it can be a very costly experience. There are millions of smaller costs that you hadn’t planned for, such as buying packaging materials for the job, solicitor’s fees, stamp duty, and removal costs. The cost of moving is one of the most expensive costs, because removal companies can cost a fortune today. The removal lorry, fuel, and labor involved can come to a lot, and it will add up the longer you need them for. The idea is that you want to get the move done in one day, rather than two or three which would cost you lots. 


There are several ways in which you can keep the cost of moving as low as possible. The first way is to pre-pack all of your things into house moving boxes, which saves the removal company doing this for you. If you left it to the removal company, they will often cost a fortune to do this part because it is the most time-consuming aspect of moving. 



You can pack the removal lorry as efficiently as possible, which will save you trips back and forth and speed up the removal process, which will in turn save you money. So how can you stack boxes in a removal lorry correctly and efficiently?


  • Firstly you need to ensure that you have strong double walled moving boxes online, which are strong enough to have other boxes stacked on top of them. If they are weak they could easily break and get damaged, so this is very important.

  • You need to put large furniture into the removal lorry first, because they take up the most room. You can easily put boxes on top of them, but you cannot put a sofa on top of packing boxes for moving, because it would just crush them and the contents inside. Packing a lorry is a bit like a jigsaw, and needs to be thought about carefully. 

  • Ideally you want to fill as many boxes into the lorry as possible. Try to fit as many as you can on top of the furniture which you have put in first, and then just start stacking them in any possible gaps. It doesn’t matter if you put them in length or width or height ways, just try to fit in as many as possible. As long as the boxes are strong enough and you have secured them well enough, then they should be fine for the job. 

  • You need to secure the heavy-duty moving boxes which you have put into the removal lorry to ensure they do not fall or slide around and damage the contents. You can do this using packing string or rope, which is often supplied by the removal company. The removal lorry should have areas on the sides where you can secure the rope around your things.
